Vox Box Membership:
The Studio
The studio will be available to the public, youth and community groups and established musicians and producers. We are taking the studio on a tour of festivals, gigs, and other live events for demonstrations/ workshops and to offer live recording facilities.
We are flexible and affordable. The ethos behind the project is to bridge the gap between professional and community-based music within the Manchester music scene and to give opportunities to people who would not normally have access to a professional studio the chance to learn & improve their production and recording skills.
The Network
We’re building a community network, to introduce members to the contacts and services they need to gain a foothold in the music industry: top quality sound engineers and equipment, promoters, distribution, pro-audio hire, artwork, design and of course other artists and collaborators.
We’ve brought together friends from:
- Herbal Sessions Soundsystem
- Drum Music
- GSS Pro Audio
- Pumpkin Records
- Maps Festival
- Alexis’ Corner
The Vox Box design is based on Mark Paltridge’s hugely successful Spark 1 Studio.
Festivals have already expressed interest in hosting the Vox Box, including:
- The Boom Town Fair
- Park Life Festival
- Kendal Calling
- The Secret Garden Party
- Call for Members
We’re offering local musicians, performers and labels the chance to get involved in the project now and we will reward your commitment.
We’re inviting you to pledge £50 and in return we will give you a lifetime membership with a 25% discount off studio and engineer time, and priority access to the studio (which will pay for itself in 1½ days in session). There will be a chance for members to get involved with festival and workshops too.
We’re only offering 50 membership positions and we expect them to go quickly. Get involved now for your chance to shape the future of underground music in Manchester.

“Over protection of intellectual property is as harmful as under protecting it. Culture isn’t possible without a rich public domain. Nothing today, like nothing since we tamed fire, is genuinely new. Culture like science and technology grows be re-creation, each new creator building on the works of those who came before. Overprotection stifles the very creative forces it is supposed to nurture.”
