Sewing Box

Sewing Box is a 8ft by 20ft shipping container, as part of an exciting new Project with Manchester Creative Collective. The shipping container has been completely refurbished, redesigned and recreated into a beautiful sewing studio/boutique.

Resident Artist Alice Eleanor (Brierley)

The Sewing Box has a beautiful contemporary mix of nostalgia and great design. Engaging with the community to ‘up-cycle’ old clothing into stylish, unique, one-off pieces through the use of creative workshops filled with fantastic visual candy, hand-made accessories and one off pieces .

Alice; "Alice the pixie alien (I am a real alien – honest!) I specialise in disguises and colour-whoring. I came to this planet to recycle, re-use and re-create. Re-loving discarded textiles by breathing new life into them. Thus creating unique one-off pieces

Clothing should be exciting, expressive, inspiring, ethical and personal!

One of my favourite things to do is encourage other people to create, through workshops; making accessories and jewellery by up-cyling textiles. "

Alice Eleanor (brierley) has spent the last year building up her portfolio of workshops in 6th form colleges, schools and community groups. Also volunteering for Action For Sustainable Living and working on a project with the EU called Chic & Ethic which had lead to her work being exhibited at the Liverpool Design Show November 2010, displaying work she has designed in conjunction with MCC and The Wesley Community Furniture, a local community based charity who supply clothing to the community at affordable prices.
